Giants vs. Cropdusters

Giants lose regular season opener to the Cropdusters by a score of 7-4.

Monday night’s opener against the Olney Cropdusters was not the result the Giants were looking for to start this summer. There were however plenty of bright spots all around the lineup.

Joe Ruzicka (Belmont University) started for the Giants and went 4 innings giving up three hits and one earned run. In addition Mitchell Bramsway (Gwynedd-Mercy College) came during the 6th inning with all three bases occupied and no outs he would get out of the inning just 3 batters later giving up one unearned run on a sacrifice fly. On the mound the Giants five pitchers combined for a total of 7 strikeouts while giving up 8 walks and one hit by pitch which gave the Cropdusters plenty of scoring opportunities throughout the game.

In the field the Giants would give two more base runners to the Cropdusters via errors however it would only prove costly once. There were multiple great plays by left fielder Andrew Marcello (Canisius College) to keep a presistent Olney offense at bay.

The Giants offense was highlighted by Noah Leib (Denison University) who went 2 for 4 with an RBI and massive double in the bottom of the second inning where he would be the first run of the game. Clean up hitter Joshua Wilson (Fredrick Community College) also went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Another bright spot in the Giants offense was the 9 hitter Kazuya – Kaz Jordan (Virginia Military Institute) who reached base three times in his four plate appearances with a triple and two walks.

Overall the Giants made a lot of contact only striking out 5 times they look to claim that first win on the road June 6th at the Southern Maryland Senators. The Giants will return home Friday, June 9th for a three game homestand against the South County Braves.
